Ingredients

Dough

·       3 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for kneading)

·       ¼ cup granulated sugar

·       2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) instant yeast

·       ½ tsp salt

·       ½ cup warm milk (110°F)

·       ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted

·       2 large eggs, room temperature

·       1 tsp vanilla extract

Apple Filling

·       2 medium apples, peeled & finely diced

·       ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted

·       ½ cup brown sugar

·       2 tsp ground cinnamon

·       ¼ tsp nutmeg

·       1 tsp lemon juice (keeps apples bright)

Glaze

·       1 cup powdered sugar

·       2–3 tbsp milk or apple cider

·       ½ tsp vanilla extract

Preparation

1. Make the Dough

1.     In a large bowl, whisk together warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let sit 5 minutes until foamy.

2.     Add eggs, melted butter, vanilla, and salt. Stir to combine.

3.     Gradually add flour until dough comes together (soft, slightly sticky).

4.     Knead on a floured surface ~8 minutes (or with dough hook ~5 minutes) until smooth & elastic.

5.     Place in a greased bowl, cover, and rise in a warm place until doubled (about 1 hour).

2. Prepare the Filling

6.     Melt butter, stir in diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.

7.     Cook in a skillet 5–6 minutes, until apples soften slightly but don’t turn mushy. Let cool.

3. Assemble

8.     Punch down dough, roll into a large rectangle (~12×20 inches).

9.     Brush lightly with melted butter. Spread apple filling evenly across dough.

10.  Cut dough into 5 long strips, stack strips on top of each other, then cut stack into 6–8 sections.

11.  Stand sections upright in a greased loaf pan (like a deck of cards).

12.  Cover and let rise ~30 minutes until puffy.

4. Bake

13.  Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35–40 minutes, covering loosely with foil halfway if top browns too quickly.

14.  Cool 10 minutes in pan, then carefully lift out.

5. Glaze

15.  Whisk glaze ingredients until smooth. Drizzle over warm bread before serving.

✨ Result: Soft, buttery bread that pulls apart into layers with gooey apple-cinnamon goodness — perfect for brunch or a cozy weekend treat.
