The week before Christmas never looks quite the way we imagine it will.Plans change, schedules fill up, and sometimes we just need recipes that feel festive without demanding everything we’ve got.
This week in our kitchen, we leaned into two holiday bakes that do exactly that:
a soft, buttermilk cinnamon roll wreath that doubles as a Christmas morning centerpiece
and holiday peanut butter blossoms, the most sought-after Christmas cookie of 2025, made simple and gift-ready
Both are comforting, familiar, and perfect for sharing — whether that’s at the table or wrapped up for someone you love.
🎄 Buttermilk Cinnamon Roll Wreath
This cinnamon roll wreath is everything we love about Christmas baking:soft dough, warm spice, and a little bit of magic when it comes together in a wreath shape.
The buttermilk keeps the rolls tender, and the wreath presentation makes it perfect for Christmas morning, brunch, or gifting to neighbors.
Ingredients
Dough
¾ cup warm buttermilk
2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
¼ cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
3 to 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
¾ tsp salt
Filling
½ cup brown sugar
2 tsp cinnamon
¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
Optional Glaze
1 cup powdered sugar
1–2 tbsp milk or cream
½ tsp vanilla
Instructions
In a large bowl, combine warm buttermilk, yeast, and sugar. Let sit 5 minutes until foamy.
Mix in the egg and melted butter.
Add flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead 5–7 minutes until smooth.
Cover and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
Roll dough into a rectangle. Spread softened butter over the surface, then sprinkle evenly with brown sugar and cinnamon.
Roll tightly into a log and slice into rolls.
Arrange rolls in a circle on a parchment-lined baking sheet, slightly overlapping to form a wreath.
Cover and let rise again for 20–30 minutes.
Bake at 350°F for 22–25 minutes, until lightly golden.
Drizzle with glaze if desired and serve warm.
✨ Tip: This wreath reheats beautifully, making it perfect to prep ahead for Christmas morning.
🍪 Holiday Peanut Butter Blossoms
(Peppermint, Hot Cocoa & Sugar Cookie Kisses)
Peanut butter blossoms are a Christmas classic for a reason — and in 2025, they’re the most sought-after Christmas cookie of the season.
This version keeps things simple with one classic peanut butter dough and a festive twist: three different kisses for a mixed holiday tray that feels intentional without extra work.
Ingredients (Double Batch – makes ~48 cookies)
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup creamy peanut butter
2 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
Peppermint Kisses, Hot Cocoa Kisses, and Sugar Cookie Kisses, unwrapped
Optional: granulated or sanding sugar for rolling
Instructions
Cream together butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and peanut butter until light and fluffy.
Mix in eggs and vanilla.
Add flour, baking soda, and salt, mixing just until combined.
Scoop dough into 1-tablespoon portions and roll into balls.
Optional: roll dough balls in sugar for sparkle.
Place on lined baking sheets about 2 inches apart.
Bake at 350°F for 8–9 minutes, until tops are just set.
Immediately press one kiss into the center of each cookie.
Let cool on the pan for 5 minutes before transferring.
🎁 Gifting tip: Let cookies cool completely before packaging. Layer with parchment if mixing flavors in one container.
🤍 A Note From Our Kitchen
These two bakes carried us through a busy holiday week — one meant to be shared at the table, and one meant to be shared far beyond it.
They’re reminders that Christmas baking doesn’t have to be complicated to be meaningful. Sometimes, the simplest recipes become the ones we return to year after year.
If you try either of these, I’d love to know how they fit into your holiday traditions.
Happy holidays and happy baking,
Whisk, Wander & Wonder ✨
